testimonial (Perth and Kinross)

(Perth and Kinross Council have purchased licenses to use the Chinese for Fun course in 6 Secondary Schools)

"Chinese for Fun is an invaluable resource for anyone who would like to introduce the Chinese language in a dynamic, accessible way. The materials are clear, well presented and flexible. They can be used as a stand alone unit of work or as a departure point to explore many aspects of Chinese language, culture and environment.

The course is ideal as a coat hanger for "A Curriculum for Excellence" in Scotland, or for broadening the curriculum in other countries. In our experience, the pupils find the direct links from language to culture fascinating e.g. a discussion of Chinese films can lead to a discussion about Martial Arts, health and well-being, or the "movie industry" in China and Western influences in the making of the recent "movie stars".

Fraser Newham has obviously drawn on years of expertise and experience in China to collate this wonderful material in a way which is user friendly, supportive for learner and teacher and challenging, without daunting any learner.

I can thoroughly recommend this course as a starting point for introducing China and Chinese across the curriculum. In Scotland, it dovetails well with the new "China Project" programme of study used in the primary schools. Thus "Chinese for Fun" can be used as an invaluable tool for stimulating transition work from P6-S2.

Please do have a look at this material - it is a wise investment."
